I am the proud father of Jeremy (9) and Aaliyah (5) – I live in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles and work in the City of Commerce as a Warehouse General Laborer.

As a single father, knowing my children are safe and supported while we navigate these extraordinary circumstances has meant the world to me. My childcare provider Adriana Lorenzo and her family care center are not only providing for my kids, but they are also providing for us – for working parents of California.

Adriana’s family care center comes with many benefits for my children. Long before the pandemic, I have been able to rely on Adriana to provide them with regular schedules and routines, academic advancement, increased confidence, and overall better behavior.

I work full-time from 6 am – 4 pm. I am grateful Adriana can drop off and pick up my kids from Endeavour College Prep school. Without her help, I would not be able to work and provide for my kids.

Having quality care for my children is a priority. But it has been a struggle to keep up with the monthly costs. That is why I am so happy that childcare providers reached an agreement with the state to waive family fees.

With family fees being waived for struggling parents like myself, I can now use this extra money a month on groceries, necessities for my kids, and bills.

Providers understand the struggles parents go through. I know our voices are being heard as providers negotiate a contract with the state. By working together, I am confident we can put an end to this childcare crisis.
