Family child care providers need your help!

Child care is the only way many working parents can balance career success with family responsibilities. Child care and early education are critical pieces of our human infrastructure – and essential for everyone to get back to work and recover from this pandemic!

Call Gov. Newsom TODAY from 9 am – 5 pm at 1-844-300-3801 and urge him to ensure family child care providers can keep their doors open!

Family child care providers are critical to California, yet we’re paid less than minimum wage. We have been meeting with the state to reach an agreement that will expand child care options for working families and make care more affordable. Our next bargaining session is on Thursday. Providers need the state to deliver a proposal on pay rates that is worthy of the essential work we do every day.

Please call Gov. Newsom NOW to make sure pay rates for providers are increased in this upcoming proposal!

Tell him that family child care providers need his help NOW and that without increased pay rates, many providers will be forced to close due to skyrocketing costs.

With a record surplus, the state can increase pay for providers, expand child care openings and make it affordable for working families.

Here’s an example of what you can say:

Parents:

“Governor Newsom, my name is ________________ and my child receives care from a child care provider from ___________ County.

Over 5,000 child care providers in California have closed their doors this year, unable to shoulder additional costs due to the pandemic, such as increased safety protections and needed investments in distance learning.

Working families like mine are in crisis. We need your help to keep our provider’s doors open so that we can continue to work, and none of our children fall further behind. We need the state to increase pay for providers, expand child care openings and make it affordable for working families. Our providers deserve a living wage.

As governor, you have a long history of supporting early childhood care and education, and we need you to take action now. Our lives and our livelihoods are at stake, and we urge you to work with child care providers immediately to develop real solutions to these problems.”

After you make your call, ask five friends, family members, co-workers, and other working parents to also call the governor. It will take all of us to secure child care providers’ first union contract, and build a system that works for all families.
