On Thursday, July 10, your elected CCPU bargaining team returned to the table with the state to negotiate our new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

What we got in response was not negotiation—it was cruelty.

The State’s only offer is paying providers ten more dollars per child, which amounts to a disappointing rate adjustment of only 1.3%. They presented this single offer with a “take it or leave it” attitude, and added that these increases won’t be available until March of next year or later! We will not accept crumbs and stay silent!

They claim this is our only option, even though they know the funding is available. UNACCEPTABLE!

All while providers continue to work over 25 unpaid hours each week, earn below minimum wage, and make their homes available 24 hours a day to support working families.

We must all be ready to continue fighting for more because this offer is not only unacceptable—it is an insult to every provider who has kept child care services running in California through numerous crises. It is also an insult to the thousands of parents who rely on providers staying open so they can work.

Can’t make it to Sacramento? Host a vigil outside your child care home on the evening of Tuesday, July 15, or Wednesday, July 16, and invite parents, children, neighbors, providers, family, and friends.

Why? We are letting Governor Newsom and the state know we are fighting back against a system that devalues our labor, disrespects our communities, and ignores our needs!
